My skin is SO dry during the winter, and it is so aggravating (unless you just like to use your powder and see flakes and wrinkles more than you should). After consulting with my favorite skin guru, Joanna, she gave me a few skin solutions.
Meet Jo:
See, gorgeous. Who wouldn't take advice from her!! I'm a Dermalogica girl, through and through. When I discovered this brand years ago, I knew I'd found something really special. It's pricey, but it lasts a long time. I usually buy it every 90 days. My usual skin care regime is as follows: Dermal Clay Cleanser, Multi/Active Toner, Oil Control Lotion for day, and Clearing Gel at night. It's usually the bomb formula for my own situation. But, the last few months my skin has gotten really dry. I guess it is the weather, and the fact that I'm getting.. uh... older. And so it begins... blah.
After talking to Jo, she recommended I change up a few things for the colder climate. Starting with my cleanser- switch to Special Cleansing Gel. It is gentle and foamy and frothy, plus helps prevent clogged pores and breakouts. That's an added bonus, right?
Next, change up the toner. While I LOVE the Multi Active Toner, it might be too much when it's below 60 out. So, Jo said switch it up with the Antioxidant Hydramist.
Let's face it, I'm getting older. I'm an attorney. I'm busy. It was only a matter of time before my schedule and stress added fine lines to my face... grrr. The Hydramist is packed with antioxidants that protect your skin's tone and texture. It also enhances the skin's firmness and elasticity and stimulates collagen production. Who couldn't use some of that? I definitely can use a lot of it. And finally- switch out the oil control to the Active Moist moisturizer.
That part I had already somewhat switched out. I've used the Active Moist before in the winter months, it is a great light weight lotion that really hydrates without shining your face.
So, there's 3 things already on my Pamper Me List. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel/ Hydramist/ and Active Moist. There's more though, of course there is. I'm all about a good skin mask every now and again. I don't know what they really do for your skin, or if it is just a placebo affect, but whatever. You always feel like a queen in a mask. I'm dying to try out Fresh's Sugar Face Polish. However, it sounds like I'd want to eat it rather than put my face in it. It is made of brown sugar and wild strawberries, afterall. At $55 a jar, I probably won't get to try it anytime soon. Hubs will know what's up though when he finds me one day burying my nose and cheeks deep in a vat of Dixie Crystals Brown Sugar and Publix Fresh Strawberries. "It's totally normal" I'll tell him.
And lastly, all good things come in Aveda packages. This is one of my favorite brands, ever. Hands down. When I think spa, I definitely think Aveda. Every now and then I'll get the itch to have a few spa items for my own everyday use... and the products disappear so fast. It's almost depressing. Kind of like how quickly Christmas comes and goes, a bottle of Shampure shampoo/conditioner won't last long enough. It's just that good. On my Aveda Pamper Me List is the following:
Rosemary Mint Bath Bar (because I'm worth it, plus it invigorates the senses, says so on the package),
Shampure Shampoo (no explanation needed here if you have actually tried this miracle in a bottle),
Shampure Candle Refill (unless you are just against being completely and ridiculously relaxed, you'll love Shampure),
and finally the Pure Abundance Volumizing Clay Conditioner (supposedly it makes your hair thicker!).
I've never used the volume conditioner, but the reviews are awesome. Definitely going to ask the folks at Van Michael about this. Sounds AAAAmazing, like everything else Aveda.
So, Hubs, hope you are reading. There's got to be a spoil-your-wife kind of day coming up soon... Plus pampering is important. Just ask some of my favorite girls:
Kelly, "the girl with school spirit written all over her face". Using's Zack's miracle zit-off cream that turns everyone's face maroon.
Lisa: "I kicked the TV and sprained my ankle."... (Jessie asks 'why').. "I was watching the new Revlon commercial and they discontinued my nail polish".
If I learned anything from the gang of SBTB, it's that there's no hope with dope, and pampering is a good thing. (Oh, and that you should get your mind to it, go for it, get down and break a sweat.)
