Finished Headboard

Saturday afternoon, I decided it was time to put on my big girl pants and get to finishing this mega headboard. If you've been reading along, you know I've been at this thing (or leaving it laying dormant) since last summer. That's almost a full year. How sad am I?! It was overwhelming choosing fabric and finding something that I knew I could live with for a long time. But I finally found fabric... so I didn't have any other excuses.

I ordered extra fabric in case I wanted to use it for throw pillows or something else around the else. It's Robert Allen Linen in Natural and I love it. It's a very good weight for linen, I would definitely recommend it.

Yes, Mom, I did iron it first...

I got down with my electric carving knife and wrapped that sucker in fabric. This was the chaotic scene.. it's gotta get ugly before it gets pretty, right?

And after what felt like 3 years of nailing these boogers in, finally the nail heads are complete.

This was not easy. I got really frustrated. I wanted to cry. I wanted to give up. I wanted to chalk it up to another Pinterest DIY FAIL.

I didn't.

Once it was complete, hubby got to work hanging these brackets. Good job, Hubs.

And here she is, in the room. It's like she is talking to me "see Ash, I was so worth it". She's not perfect, but she was way cheaper than any number I could afford. And I love her. I'll be honest with you, this was not an easy-peasy project in my opinion. This will be my first and last headboard project. Ha! (Sorry, Mom, I didn't iron my bed skirt....love you, mean it.)

But, in the end it was well worth it. It just adds so much to my bedroom, I couldn't be happier.

A closeup of the nail head detail. Those things will haunt my nightmares for a while. I used 3.5 inches of foam to make this headboard super plush.

I really love the fabric!

I told my husband the headboard was going to be big and tall. When we got it on the wall, he said "woah, you weren't kidding". I wasn't kidding. I wanted something huge and not puny. This is a long and horizontal space, and the large stripes I painted makes it feel even longer... so I knew I needed something big and bulky. Something that had presence. Something that demanded my attention.

And so, here she is. Size 77"x42".

Seeing this view at night makes me very happy! I'm glad I powered through it and finished.

I only wish it weren't Monday and I could go back to bed.....

Okay, it looks AMAZING but in no part of your post did you give me the inspiration I need to do it myself. Ha!!! Girl..you are WAY better at this stuff than I am, if you thought it was hard/a pain..I'll never be able to do it! So jealous though!
