A Birthday & Halloween

Happy birthday to my hubby! He returned from a week long trip to Chicago in the wee hours of the night on his actual birthday, so we celebrated Friday night as a family. A friend of mine contacted me a couple months back about an old Citadel transom window that she had purchased at an auction. It was from the old barracks when they were torn down several years ago. I jumped at the chance to score it for Hubs. He's a Mike '99 grad and I knew it would be a very special gift for him. He loved it!

Friday I made his grandmother's pound cake recipe, which is his absolute favorite dessert. I only make it on special occasions because it is kind of an undertaking with all that sifting and sifting and sifting, but it was a big hit. Evans sure loved it! Oh, and there's a piece missing because someone couldn't wait for the candles and singing....

Saturday we ran errands and got the house picked up for people to come over before trick-or-treating. 10 adults and 8 kids was slightly chaotic, but we are used to that around here. We kept it simple and did snack foods and ordered pizzas. After dinner we went to The Bluff on Isle of Hope which is right down the street. We try to go early before it gets too crazy down there. The Lindleys' was my favorite house last year and again this year. This year they did an entire Candyland theme and gave out huge lollipops. Amazing! The kids loved it. By the end of the night, Evans and and the younger kids were exhausted, so we headed home for pizza round 2, baths, and bed. Halloween is seriously the most fun. Oh, to be a kid again!

Hocus Pocus, of course...

End of the night, time for a bath... yea she looks ready for bed, right? Wired.

Of course, on Sunday Evans was up and ready to go by 6am. Holy moly the time change sure stinks with a kid. We were soooo tired. Hubs enjoyed some fishing Sunday afternoon, but otherwise we were lazy bums all day. Sunday night he tried out the birthday gift my parents got him- the new Garden & Gun Southerner's Cookbook. He made hamburger steak and onion gravy and it was a hit. Delicious! Can't wait to taste test more of the recipes.

Evans' big girl bed comes this Wednesday! Two more nights in the crib. Hopefully the transition is a smooth one.....

It's Monday, Nov. 2nd, and I'm already itching to get out the Christmas tree. Next up, turkey!
