Master Bedroom Switcheroo

So, I know I said I'd post on my finished dresser today, but unfortunately hubby has been under the weather since last Thursday. Which means it was up to me to move said dresser up to the bedroom. Which means I'd need to gain super human strength in a matter of days and be able to lift said furniture up 2 flights of stairs. Or, hubby would need to miraculously get over his cold and help me. None of the above happened, and so this is the not-so-revealed dresser.... Sad!

Hopefully my man will feel better very soon and I'll be able to have clothing storage once again... But, I did manage to make the most of my free time this weekend. I decided to do a little switcheroo in our master bedroom. I moved the bed back to the main wall and rehung our wedding pictures on either side. 

By the way, I just put new sheets on our bed. I got them at Stein Mart for... wait for it.... $9.99. Yes. A king micro-fiber sheet set. Nine dollars and ninety-nine cents. Seriously, that's less than a bottle of wine. I wasn't sure how they would be considering the price tag, but I thought for that amount I could take a risk. Let me tell you, they are incredibly comfortable and have lasted through a load of laundry... so far so good. Run in there and get some for yourself. 

I'm liking the scale of the pictures with our big chunky lamps. The combination helps fill up all the negative space on a long wall.  And I moved all the furniture by myself, so maybe I did gain a little bit of that superhuman strength. Been watching too many Buffy reruns I guess. 

Of course, hubs' side of the bed is complete with a million remotes, the phone, and other random electronics.   And the current read, Argo. Anybody else read it or seen the movie?

I have half a mind to paint these nightstands black like our interior doors. What do you think? Oh, and that bearded man, that's my daddy and mama on their wedding day. It's funny they are wearing gray, they match the room. Thanks guys. This space is also known as the area where I throat punch my alarm every morning in an effort to ignore the world and sleep in.

There's that mercury glass knob from Pottery Barn; I could just about eat them if it weren't for all the glass, metal and what-not. 

I also got around to finishing my bed skirt and placing it on the bed. I am so in love with this fabric. It's vintage feedsack stripe in charcoal from fabric.com. Makes for a cozy sleeping situation. You know, when I'm not having my Walking Dead nightmares. Dang that show.

I had a 16x26 pillow made for the bed in that same fabric. The ikat pillow I purchased from Chic Decor Pillows on Etsy. You may have seen their work on Nate's show. It's featured and praised by Nate often. I only hate them a little bit for it.

I'd love to find a little reading lamp for this corner, and a small pedestal style table. I'll admit though, this chair is usually a resting place for all things resembling laundry, purses, and baseball hats. I figured I'd clear it out for the camera...also known as thrown on the floor to the left. :)

Hopefully we can get the dresser up to the third floor soon! Until then, I'll be tending to a sick husband. If you've ever taken care of a sick man, you know the appropriate response here is to wish me luck.

Brass is Back?

When the hubs and I moved in, we decided to replace all of our door knobs/locks as any good new homeowner would.  At the moment I didn't know what direction I wanted to go in the future, so decided to stay in keeping with the rest of the interior doors and replace all exterior knobs/locks in the same antiqued brass finish.  Now that all my doors are black, I'm SO glad we did that.  I love the combo of a rusty gold and black together.

I've started looking at other ideas of incorporating more of this vintage brass look in our house.  I love mixing silver and gold, and think it looks so good if you have a lot of repetition of both metals throughout a space.  I'm thinking of bringing it to our kitchen....

I love the way modern brass hardware can update an old traditional style kitchen.  In contrast, I love the way antique brass hardware (like from an old dresser even) can make a new modern kitchen feel cozier. What do you think?  Trendy or classic?

Stair It Up Little Darlin'.. and... BACK in BLACK

O-oh! Little darlin'... one more time... stair it up! Check out the new darling little light that now lives in our stairway! Thanks to my handy hubby for replacing the old worn out 80's browny browns stained glass lovely fixture (that was filled with um... dust.. and... well... we won't go there, just note it was nasty).  I didn't do it justice by taking a picture, so you'll just have to trust me when I say that muddy orange badness of a light had to go (even if it did take us 10 months to replace since the time we moved in).

And cue the angels singing... Aaaahh!

(note to self- paint the wall where the old fixture was.. ehh.. I'll get to that)

I finished painting the hall upstairs and the doors black, too.  So glad I went ahead and did all the doors black.  I think I've now officially painted every square inch of our home.  Ha!  All part of making an old house your own though.  Which is a lot of the fun in moving and what they call "nesting".  Just another excuse for women to decorate right?

And now of course I'm dreaming of some cute little patterned runner for the hallway.  Any of these Pinterest numbers would do...

Black Doors and Styling Bookcases

I've been working on getting more of a "grown up" look going in my house lately.  My absolute favorite style is definitely coastal, and that's what I love to do and that's exactly the kind of accessories and "stuff" I had when hubs and I moved into our home.  However, over time, that style just didn't feel right in this traditional house in the middle of a metro Atlanta suburbia neighborhood.  Not right at all.  If I lived in, let's say, Savannah, or if I still lived near Lake Murray, I wouldn't even hesitate to make my entire home turquoise.  But that doesn't work in a Georgian traditional.  So.... I've been making just a few minor changes with paint and by using rearranging and shopping the house skills.

Starting with my interior doors.  They are all now BLACK.  I don't know why I didn't do this sooner, because I'm so in love with the results.  I went down to my local Benjamin Moore store to get the perfect black ("wrought iron").  This is the sign on their front door, it made me crack up!

Ha! Amen to that.  The results of my interior black doors...

And I rearranged my bookshelves.  While passing through my parents house last week on our way to Charleston, I found some old pictures of my dad's parents who are now both in Heaven.  I thought it would be so special to have these in my own home.  I never got to meet my dad's dad, and my grandmother passed away when I was in the first grade.  I'm really excited to see them and get to know them when I one day get to the other side! And the picture at the top shelf could not be any cuter.  It's my dad in 3rd grade.  He's such a cutie! Hehe.  Mom didn't have any pictures of herself to give me... or maybe she just didn't want to share her kid pics. ha. ha.

I also scored a few mirrors from the Ballard Designs Outlet that now live in our foyer.  

With all this traditional grown-upping going on, I thought curtains in a funky modern pattern would be a great balance.  I love the way these turned out from Windows by Melissa.  Thanks, Melissa!
